This medication can be used by:
Composition
Each White (Hormone) Tablet contains Ethinylestradiol USP 0.03 mg & Levonorgestrel USP 0.15 mg. Each Brown color (Iron) tablet contains Ferrous Fumarate BP 75 mg.
Pharmacology
This pill serves as an effective, temporary, and short-term birth control method for women. It contains two hormones, Levonorgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol. Each strip comprises 28 tablets: 21 are hormone tablets, and 7 are iron tablets. Combination oral contraceptives work by preventing ovulation, reducing the risk of pregnancy. Additionally, they bring about changes in cervical mucus to hinder sperm penetration and endometrial modifications that reduce the likelihood of implantation.
Dosage & Administration
Begin taking this tablet on the first day of menstruation or within the first five days of your menstrual cycle. Consume one tablet at the same time every day with food, preferably after dinner or before bedtime. Commence with one white tablet daily for three weeks, then switch to one brown tablet daily for the following seven days. If your menstruation begins while taking the brown tablets, continue the medication. If pregnancy is ruled out, it can be initiated on any day of menstruation. However, during the next seven days, ensure the use of a condom during sexual intercourse. Once the seven brown tablets are consumed, regardless of the onset of menstruation, recommence the dosage starting with a white tablet.
In the event of missing a tablet for one day, take it as soon as you notice it and continue with the regular dose for the day. Missing two consecutive days renders the contraceptive ineffective; however, to maintain the menstrual cycle's schedule, take two tablets immediately when you realize the lapse.
Interaction
Drugs or herbal supplements that induce specific enzymes, such as CYP3A4, may reduce the effectiveness of COCs (Combined Oral Contraceptives) or increase the risk of breakthrough bleeding. When using COCs with enzyme-inducing medications, advise patients to employ additional contraceptive methods.
While on this medication, it is advisable to avoid caffeine, dairy products, and foods containing phytic acid.
Contraindications
This product should be avoided if you are known to be hypersensitive to any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include headache, nausea, depression, vaginal infections, irregular vaginal bleeding, soreness, and discomfort. Uncommon side effects are liver tumors, jaundice, high blood pressure, and gallbladder issues.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Do not take this pill during pregnancy. If pregnancy occurs, discontinue its use. Combined hormonal contraceptives (CHCs) and/or their metabolites may be present in human milk and could be passed to breastfed infants. Breastfeeding women may experience reduced milk production when taking CHCs that contain this tablet.
